The coolest Interface to (Sub)Version Control

TortoiseSVN Logo

TortoiseSVN is an easy to use SCM / source control software for Microsoft Windows and maybe the best standalone Subversion client there is. It is implemented as a Windows shell extension, which makes it integrate seamlessly into the Windows explorer. Since it's not an integration for a specific IDE you can use it with whatever development tools you like.

Another advantage of this shell integration is that not only web or software developers can use it but all the people who don't have the development tools installed, for example translators, doc writers, ...

SVNProtocolHandler

Subversion repositories served with Apache have the nice built-in feature: the repositories can be browsed with any webbrowser at no additional cost.

For Subversion repositories served via svnserve, this is not possible because browsers don't understand that protocol.

Until now:

TortoiseSVN 1.5.2 released

TortoiseSVN 1.5.2 has been released, still linked against Subversion 1.5.1.

This is a bugfix/maintenance release:
Due to a new bug introduced in the svn library 1.5.1 we're now releasing TortoiseSVN 1.5.2 which has a workaround implemented for that bug. This fixes a crash when resolving conflicts during a merge.

You can get it from our download page.

Log cache and repository UUIDs

Fetching the log for slow or very big repositories can take quite a while. And of course, it requires you to be connected to the repository. You can't show the log messages if you're not online - very annoying if the network is down or you're in a place where you don't even have network access.

StExBar and SkTimeStamp for x64

Both the StExBar and the SkTimeStamp extensions are now available for x64 OS. So if you're using a 64-bit Windows, grab the new versions!

If you're using a 32-bit Windows, you should also get the new versions because I fixed some small bugs there too.

XP SP3 and date functions

During the last few weeks, I got a lot of crash reports for TortoiseSVN which indicated that a certain date API returned bogus data, which either lead to a crash (hence the crash reports) or garbled date strings in various TortoiseSVN dialogs (these were reported on our mailing lists).

Another littlle tool

A new addition to our tools site: SKTimeStamp.

SKTimeStamp is a very little shell extension which adds a new page to the Explorer properties dialog to let you change the file/folder dates and times.

See the description on its page: SKTimeStamp.

Nine million (9.000.000) downloads!

Tonight, shortly after RC1 of TortoiseSVN was released, TortoiseSVN was downloaded nine million times from Sourceforge. Only two months after the eight millions were passed, the next round number was reached.

Forecast: 10.000.000 (Ten million) downloads will be reached mid June.

All tools now under GPL

All the tools on http://tools.tortoisesvn.net are now open source, licensed under the GPLv2.

These tools include:

  • grepWin: a regular expression search and replace tool for Windows
  • StExBar: an enhancement toolbar for the Windows explorer with features Microsoft forgot to implement themselves

8 Million downloads on Sourceforge

The boring bookkeeper again. This weekend we passed an impressive 8 million downloads. }:)

Translators wanted!!

Hi Folks,

please take a look at our GUI translation status page. Half of the translations haven't seen an update for some time. Most of them are in a quite good state, read: it is not much work to complete them.
